Educators for grades K through 5 will engage in guided reflection and discussion about the concept of culture and the elements of culture in order to recognize some cultural proficiencies and ensure they are planning lessons that are aligned to the state standards for understanding process for historical change.
Adult learners will engage with the laws, customs, and power-dynamics that controlled the lives of those enslaved on plantations in order to build research skills that center the lives, experinces, and agency of Black folks during America’s plantation years.
High school students will engage with readings and videos about Africatown’s founders and the community’s founding in order to appreciate how the community is one of America’s greatest success stories.
